Mama Lesson #6

Mama lesson #6. Change your perspective. I have a threenager. I don't know who coined 'terrible two's', but its a load of crap. Three has been the biggest challenge on me as a mother. Luca gets upset at the tiniest things. For instance, he likes to go left at the bottom of our stairs, and gets very upset if I go right. It was driving me crazy! I found myself getting very upset with him, flying off the handle upset. So, one day after teaching a class on perspective (I try to listen to my own lessons), at the bottom of the stairs, instead of getting upset, I said to Luca 'you go that way, I'll go this way and we'll meet in the kitchen!' He loved it! Now its a game and he loves to run in the opposite direction and when we meet in the middle its usually for a big hug or a tickle.

How often in our own lives do we fly off the handle, get upset because something out of our control has changed? A flight delay, a cancellation, anything. Its the smallest things that become the catalyst to the unleashing of our habitual reaction. If you can find a tiny amount of space, take a breath, and find a way to look from a different perspective. And ask yourself, 'is this worth it?' Most of the time, its not worth getting upset/angry/frustrated. Life is so very short and so very precious. Honor the lessons as they come and stay present to the opportunity to learn. Thank you to my threenager and thank you life. Namaste.
