Embracing Change
by Wendy Garafalo on March 30th, 2015

I am a creature of habit.  Most of us are, even if we don’t admit to it.  Sure, we’ll make little changes, we’ll shift our eating, our yoga practice and our intentions.  But, we thrive knowing that our world is safe and that no major shifts are happening.  But then, it’s like life sneaks up behind you to say ‘boo’!  To remind you that nothing is ever permanent, that we are in a constant state of change.

The last year of my life has been filled with change (a.k.a life sneaking up on me).  My lovely sister was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She battled and won her fight.  The passion and love that bloomed because of her diagnosis, reminded me how precious life is, and how important it is to ride the waves of change.  So, my family and I followed our instincts, made a huge change, and moved to Carlsbad.  We’ve been here about 2 weeks, but it feels amazing!  I’ve known deep in my soul I needed this change, but being the creature of habit I am, I was hesitant.  I didn’t want to leave all the students I had the opportunity to teach every week.  I didn’t want to leave the friends and yoga community I so loved.

But, from the moment life slapped me in the face, I promised myself I would live my life in a way that honors my soul, thus allowing myself and my family to thrive.  My teaching changed, I began to trust my instincts and to teach from a place that focused entirely on healing.  I stopped worrying about being popular, I started being ‘me’.  And in being true to my soul, I realized, I am enough!

I am so grateful to be part of this ever-growing Mukti family.  It made the decision to move so much easier, thinking that I wasn’t leaving my Mukti family, but expanding it to other areas.  How exciting change can be when we just embrace and realize how connected we all are and we understand with change comes opportunity.

I will be back to visit my old stomping grounds several times this year, to embrace the students I love and to have a little something new to share with you.  I hope to see you at one of my workshops, trainings or retreats.  May your lives be blessed, may you trust your instincts, and when you make big changes, may you ride the wave and open your eyes to all the opportunities that await your ever growing soul!
